Scienceclass#4 The weight problem part II

The other day i saw a documentation about one of the heaviest woman in the world, Mayra Rosales who weighed 1036 pounds (470kg). That is heavier than a small car!!! The story struck my attention like lightening because her heavy weight actually was her jail-free card because the judge ruled out that she was capable of lifting her hand and hitting a child to death. That was not the end of her story, motivated by her siters kids, she went a head and lost 800 pounds. The journey included 11 surgeries but she looks incredable today! I love happy endings :-)

But one can not help but ask; how the hell could this happen? How does someone gain 470kg? Didn´t she see it coming? Couldn´t someone talk to her about it? Friends, family, enemies...anyone???

And then, Booom!, i remembered that the world we live in! The world that weight is almost a taboo and a crime at the same time to talk about. Dare you tell me i´m gaining weight....! Did you just call me fat?.. Mention it to someone and you'll be in trouble my friend!

The truth is, weight-gain is a problem, which needs urgent action otherwise in a couple of decades everyone is going to be obese.

So, let me be the taboo breaker.

lets talk weight-gain. I will tell you about some causes and of cause i can´t throw a problem in the room and not talk about some solutions.

The wrong DIET!


The global average diet  today is composed of a lot of many refined foods, fried food, sugars, additives and chemical containing foods many of which affect the plasma membranes of our cells, affecting almost all processes in the cell.

Our bodies are constructed in a way that it should store and save the excess sugar in form of glycogen and fat to supply your cells with energy in the tougher times when you might not have enough to eat. This is useful in times of hunger like drought and war, but not useful in today´s society where there is always a plate full of food three or even more times a day. In every of these times there is excess food for storage. What is your body supposed to do with so much stored sugar? So it does the only this that it can, it stores it as fat every where. In every organ; skin, liver, heart, kidney...etc. We become round and round in shape and the organs start to fail one by one. You start hearing terms like fat-liver, diabetes, atherosclerosis, stroke et-cetera.
A tenth of what we eat daily would have been sufficient for our day´s energy coverage.
The other problem that i can not ignore in today´s society is manipulated foods. I´m not even talking about gene-manipulation. No, i´m merely talking of refinements, preservation, enhancements, sugar reductions, flavorings! Why change the natural food to something artificial? Our bodies can not deal with artificial. These can not be metabolized. You know what it does with it? It accumulates it! Little by little till the little becomes more and the more starts causing diseases like cancer.



Lack of Excercise!
Not what you are thinking...this is not about hitting the gym every day. No!
This is about moving your body more. taking the stairs instead of the elevator, Walking to the supermarket instead of driving. Riding your bike to work, walking to your friends place, having a ball game tournament with your friends. Spend as much time outside as you can, and move your body with every opportunity. Don´t be sad the next time you find the "out of order" sign at your elevator door.


Stressful lifestyle!
After having a nice healthy diet, and exercising don´t forget to keep a healthy life style. Avoid stressful situations, think positive and laugh more. At least once a day remember to do that which makes you happy!!!

Genetics!
Did you notice that most heavy bodied parents get heavy bodies kids? If this is the case in your family, then maybe your weight problem is not the diet or the lack of exercise, its in your gene!
Researchers have found genetic mutations which lead to either impaired fat metabolism or craving for fatty food. so, maybe you belong in the group of people who can just say; "There is nothing i can do about my weight, its in my genes"!

But if Mayra Rosales could lose 800 pounds, then even we can get rid of the winter-rolls (Winterspeck) within no time!

Lets talk to eachother more about weight, not being harsh to ourselves because its not about body shape. Every body shape is beautiful really, its about the health.

When it comes to weight just remember; a healthy diet, exercise and a smile everyday...That's all it takes!!
