Germany~ through my eyes part#1

On our way from today's morning meeting, a few colleges of mine and i discussed how different Germany is from our motherlands. Thence i decided to give you an insight on Germany from my perspective.

The first thing that will strike your eyes when you arrive in Germany from a country like mine is that this place is almost spotlessly clean. The pedestrian paths, the parks, the play grounds, the streets. There are no heaps of rubbish lying anywhere, neither at the back yards nor at the road sides like we have in Kenya. They even sweep the leaves from the parks and roadsides. No, that was not a joke. The government has organized garbage cans all over the country. Not just in the big cities but also in the smallest villages. Besides, there are strict garbage separation policies which every household has to keep, where the plastic, the papers and the biological garbage are disposed separately. No one throws rubbish on the streets. That just doesn't happen!

Germans love dogs. I had never seen so many dogs in my life before coming here, but if you want to own a dog in Germany, then you have to be ready to  clean up his excrement anytime he does his business in public. When you take him for a walk, you take your doggy bag with you. Its not really your choice, the law demands this of you. In-fact in Bavaria for example, the government provides doggy bags in most parks so you really have no excuse.

The place is not just clean but its also well-planed and organized. You almost can not believe your own eyes because buildings of a certain area of the city, look so alike. They face the same direction. Have the same color and the same construction design. This is mind you not a coincident, it is actually required of you by law to build your house a certain way to conform the surrounding. Its so mind blowing neat, you might sometimes think that you are lost in a painting.

The other crazy thing about Germany is that the market places are quiet. No, seriously! Virtually as quiet as a classroom in Kenya i would allege. No children running around, no market women laughing (you know how...), no men whistling after pretty girls, no sellers calling out for the day´s offers, no buyers bargaining to get a better price. Nothing! I´m not even sure a German will know what bargaining is. You can practically take a quiet relaxing walk at the market place.

In addition to market places which take place 2-3 times per week; where farmers sell their vegetables, fruits, cheese, ham...etc and some traders sell clothes and bags , there is also the flea market (Flohmarkt) where locals sell their junk. These take place once a month and you can practically find anything in the flea market. Car batteries, clothes, shoes, makeup, utensils, cutlery, cds, lamps, paintings, jewelry, furniture
.... name it. If you ever happen to visit Germany, don´t miss the Flohmarkt!

There is so much to admire about this beautiful country, this was just a pre-taste (Vorgeschmack) of so much to come! To be continued...

First you will be amazed, then you will fall in love with the whole place, i promise!

Lots of luv
