Live with an open eye!

Something unusual happened today; i did not have to run to catch my train! And since i had the opportunity to enjoy the ten minutes walk  from home to the train station, i happened to notice stuff. For the first time i noticed that people stare at me. At first i thought my wig was not sitting right and had to get out my pocket mirror and check myself out. My hair was fine, i had no lipstick on my teeth and my makeup was quite on point. Who were these people staring at me? And why are they staring at me?

To understand this, you have to know about the refugee crisis which has been getting out of control since summer 2015. There were 1.1 million refugees arriving in Germany in 2015. Most of these immigrants come from northern Africa. These are mostly Arab and African ethnicity. Since then there have been thousands and thousands of crimes that have been reported to have been committed by these immigrants. This includes the cologne attacks of 2015 new years eve, where 100 girls were mass raped by north-African immigrants.

Since then, the Germans have associated dark skinned with crime and shameless parasitic behavior. And hence the staring at every black person they see with suspicion. Their stare made me feel unwelcome. Like i´m taking up their space with no permission.

A group of  10 black men was staring at me too. From the facial features, i could conclude that they most probably originated from Somali or Eritrea. All from a refugee camp in the nearby, i guess. It was not a nice stare either. It made me uncomfortable. I gave a short nod by passing and walked by to the other side and waited for my train from there.

These people most likely stare at me everyday, but today was the first time that i noticed because i took the time to perceive.

This made me wonder: What else have i missed just because i was in a hurry to and from somewhere?

And so i decided to always keep my eyes open while i live.

Tomorrow i will even talk to those people and get to know them better. The Germans might be surprised to know that not all black people are criminals, and the group of refugees might appreciate someone telling them that staring at people makes them feel uncomfortable.

Enough of living blind; as of today....

I will live with an open eye! I hope you too.

Be blessed as u see the world you live in.

Lots of luv
